Research Interests:

Dr. Holly Seale is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Public Health and Community Medicine, and the Program Co-Director of the Master of Infectious Diseases Intelligence course.

As a social scientist, she leads a program of research that is focused on the attitudes and behaviours of health consumers and health providers and how they impact on engagement with public health and health service strategies. Her work focuses on improving awareness and acceptance of immunisation with a particular focus on special at-risk groups including children and adults with medical conditions, healthcare workers and refugees and migrants. By understanding the perceptions around immunisation, she is able to develop and test new interventions such as communication or education strategies.

Aside from immunisation, she also undertakes research which focused on improving the level of engagement and compliance with infection control strategies in the hospital setting. This work crosses over a number of strategies including the use of non-pharmaceutical strategies (work maps across Australia, China and Vietnam), hand hygiene education and the role of the patient in infection control.

Holly is also actively involved with other forms of research including clinical trials, surveillance and epidemiological based studies.
