image - Public Health, Human Rights and Asylum Seeker Detention Symposium A symposium took place on 27 May, 2014 to discuss the public health issues of Australia’s asylum seeker program and their relationship to human rights. It brought together academics, health practitioners, policy-makers and those with hands-on experience in detention centres.

		Dr Karen Zwi - Keynote Speaker Conjoint Associate Professor with the School of Women's and Children's Health, UNSW Dr Zwi has recently returned from Christmas Island where she was the paediatrician for the Human Right Commission Inquiry into Children in Immigration Detention. <Watch excerpt>

		Dr Michael Grewcock Senior Lecturer in Criminal Law and Criminology in the Faculty of Law, UNSW Author of Border Crimes: Australia’s war on illicit migrants and several refereed articles and book chapters on Australia’s policies towards refugees. Chief Investigator on the ARC funded Australian Deportation Project and has also undertaken research into the policing of people smuggling. <Watch excerpt>
