Special Programs
Practical Information for Applicants
Language requirements
All Programs at the School are conducted in English. Visiting fellows and workshop and short course participants must have a good working knowledge of English. In some cases evidence of English proficiency may be required.
In some specially designed group programs interpreters may be provided by prior request. For offshore programs local tutors assist with the language.
Admission requirements
Participants will normally have a relevant degree and a minimum of three years professional experience in a suitable area.
Funding
Various organisations have sponsored participation in our programs including World Health Organization, UNFPA, AusAID and Nuffield Trust (UK). Some participants are sponsored by their own organisations. UNSW is not usually able to provide direct financial support. If you require funding to support your study, you are advised to seek this as soon as possible.
Location
Programs are usually conducted at University of New South Wales (UNSW), a modern urban campus situated in Sydney’s eastern suburbs 20 minutes by bus from the city centre and Sydney Harbour. Programs can also be conducted offshore.
Training certificate
Upon completion of fellowships, workshops and short courses participants will receive a University of New South Wales certificate of training.
Travel and accommodation
Accommodation is available close to the university at a wide range of price levels. For further details see http://www.housing.unsw.edu.au
Visa Requirements
All overseas program participants need a visa for entry to Australia. Application for a visa should be made to the nearest Australian diplomatic mission immediately upon acceptance into a program.
Extending your visit
Participants in short courses or workshops may wish to make prior arrangements with the International Programs Coordinator for additional professional visits to educational and health care institutions to observe the application of ideas and practices.
In-country training
The School welcomes inquiries about conducting specially tailored courses or workshops in your home institution.
Overseas visitors to UNSW may find this electronic information pack helpful in planning their visit.
