Postgraduate Research Student Funding Opportunities
PhD Scholarship at the National Centre in HIV Social Research, UNSW
There is opportunity to undertake a PhD program at the National
Centre in HIV Social Research (NCHSR) at UNSW supported by a 3 year
scholarship.
The PhD project is based in the UNSW Hepatitis C Vaccine
Project. This is a multidisciplinary project covering a number of
areas of interest to students with a social science background. The
project is based in Sydney.
The background to the project relates to the future development of
vaccines (and vaccine trials) for hepatitis C targeted at people who
inject drugs. The project will focus on how communication occurs
within networks of people who inject drugs and will focus on issues
of biomedical concepts (like vaccine and treatment) and elements of
vaccine trials (such as randomisation and placebo). It is expected
that this project will use primarily qualitative research (interviews
of focus group discussions) with people who inject drugs. There will
be opportunity for innovative methods to be developed or used and to
explore opportunities for the students' own interests to be pursued
within the course of the project.
This scholarship needs to be taken up from Semester 2, 2008.
