Welcome from the Head of School

We are proud to present to you opportunities for study at the School of Public Health and Community Medicine, at the University of New South Wales. We have set our sights high – both for our School which aims to contribute to promoting health in Australia and internationally, and for our educational programs, which we aim to ensure are among the best that Australia and the Asia-Pacific region have to offer.

What makes us special? We have a commitment to understanding and helping you negotiate the interfaces between research and policy; between the politics, the evidence, and the practicalities of defining strategies and running services; and between Australia in all its diversity and the Asia-Pacific region. We believe in a comprehensive view of health and health care and are committed to advancing people’s rights to enjoy the highest achievable levels of health. We invite you, as a student in our programs, to work with us in taking forward these objectives and in defining for yourself how you relate to them.

We aim to create opportunities for you to engage with our staff and with fellow course participants – and to develop and sustain these relationships into the future. I personally am committed to learning from you about ways in which we can refine and improve our programs – get involved and push us to deliver the best in modern postgraduate public health and management training.
